Create timed subtitles, then make them your own.

Generate a subtitle draft from speech in a video or audio recording. Review the words and display times in the cue editor, then download an SRT or VTT file for your editor, web player or publishing platform.

How to generate subtitles

  1. Upload the final edit of a video your browser can decode. Free local mode supports up to 200 MB and 20 minutes per file.
  2. Set Speech language and choose Start transcription. Local Whisper runs on your device after the model download.
  3. Check every cue’s text, Start and End fields. Select SRT or VTT in Export format, export the file and test it alongside your video.

Subtitle file or captions burned into the video?

This tool exports a separate text subtitle file. It does not render a new video with permanent captions. To burn in subtitles, import the reviewed SRT or VTT into a video editor and render the finished video there.

Review more than the words

Check the first cue, pauses, speaker changes and the ending. Fix overlapping timings and spelling mistakes. Add meaningful sounds or speaker labels when needed for accessible captions. Automatic recognition provides a draft; it does not guarantee complete accessibility captions or frame-perfect timing.

Already have captions? Use the subtitle converter to change formats without running recognition again.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few answers,
before you start.

Still have a question? Say hello

01Does this add permanent captions to my video?+

It creates an editable subtitle file. Export SRT or VTT and import it into your video editor or player. Burning text into the picture requires a separate video editor.

02Can I generate subtitles for a video for free?+

Yes, using local processing for a browser-supported file up to 200 MB and 20 minutes. No account is needed. Processing speed depends on your device.

03Can I edit the subtitle timing?+

Yes. Edit each cue’s Start and End fields and its text. Add missing cues or remove incorrect ones, then review the subtitles against the final video.

04Does it translate subtitles into another language?+

This workflow transcribes the spoken language. It does not provide a subtitle translation step. Select the speech language you want Whisper to recognize.

05Should I download SRT or VTT?+

Use the format accepted by your editor or publishing platform. VTT is useful for web text tracks; SRT is accepted by many video workflows. Always test the exported file in your destination.
